Kassiopi stands at the foot of Mount Pantokrator on the north-eastern corner of Corfu and is approached from either side by scenic coast roads. It's an established and popular tourist resort which started life as a fishing village but now offers every type of holiday facility. Many recently constructed expensive villas can be found outside the town itself. The harbour is very picturesque and the ruins on the headland date from Roman times. There are shingle and pebble bays on either side of the harbour which provide safe swimming. Eating out ranges from tavernas to sophisticated restaurants.

Avlaki is still largely unknown except to locals. The long, white shingle and pebble beach surrounds a curving bay with clear blue water. There are a couple of tavernas serving traditional Greek cuisine.

Agios Stefanos is renowned as one of the most attractive on the north-east coast. There is a small shingle beach with sunbeds and umbrellas for hire. (Please be advised that children need close supervision as the water deepens very quickly.) There are wonderful views across to the mainland and Albania. Retaining a traditional feel, this picturesque fishing village offers a good selection of upmarket waterside tavernas.

Kerasia is surrounded by olive and pine trees. It is quiet, beautiful and has one of the loveliest beaches in the north-east for swimming, with shallow water. There is a single taverna on the beach with a wooden pier.

Kouloura, set against a backdrop of cypress and pine trees, is a picturesque little fishing harbour, consisting of two houses, a fish taverna and the small chapel of Saint Nikolas. On its promontory stands an estate dating back to the 11th century, which is used as a holiday home by the Agnelli (Fiat Motors) family. There is a small beach.

Kalami is a horseshoe-shaped bay surrounded by green, wooded hills. It is famous for The White House, the Corfu home of Gerald Durrell from 1936-1939. He found the beautiful bay a perfect spot to concentrate on his writing. In recent years, tourism has turned this little fishing village into one of the most popular resorts in Corfu. The shingle beach with its clear blue sea is ideal for swimming and has been awarded Blue Flag status.

Agni is one of the most secluded bays in Corfu and lies at the bottom of a steep, winding hill. There are three popular restaurants, each with its own jetty – and not much else. The beach is pebbles and the sea is very deep close to the shore, hence the jetties. Each restaurant also provides sunbeds for its customers.

Kalamaki is a magnificent stretch of beach fringed with tamarisk trees and old olive groves. The sandy beach and wide shallow bay makes this an ideal spot for children. It is one of the cleanest beaches on the island and has been awarded a Blue Flag. There are a couple of pleasant tavernas.

Agios Spiridon is an attractive beach, set in a charming bay with sand, rocks and emerald waters. Nearby there is a small lake and behind the lake some smaller, even quieter beaches. The area is popular with birdwatchers and botanists. It is as beautiful today as when Gerald Durrell described it in My Family and Other Animals. There are several tavernas serving fish, sea-food and Corfiot specialities.
